This MFA sample thesis by Jeffrey Neal Gunshol (University of Utah, 2006) explores how choreography can appropriate and manipulate elements from popular culture – television, cinema, and media – to create new meaning and broaden dance’s audience. The work culminates in THAT GIRL: a musical pastiche of one woman’s life, a choreoplay that fuses dance, theatre, and pop culture reference.
